Most people feel good being in nature. There is a word to use this feel good sensation and that is called GROUNDING. This word is used to refer to the healing that takes place from coming in direct content with the earth.

One hour in nature can naturally regulate blood flow in the body, enhance tissue repair and help your skin glow.

It works because the earth is electrically charged and it can neutralize free radicals and bring you back in sync with the earth’s energy field.

We are constantly bombarded with free radicals from regular expose to environmental pollutants, heavy metals, toxicity, and chemicals in the foods supply.

Those free radicals are associated with disease, aging, and inflammation.

When you expose your bare skin to the soil, sand, or grass, the healing powers of the earth neutralize them to keep inflammation and aging in check.

There is more and more research coming out about the benefits of being in nature.  The Japanese have a practice called forest bathing,  where you take contemplative walks through woods to reconnect with nature.  These walks can lead to decreased stress, naturally elevate your mood, and boost your immune system.

There is also a book called The Nature Fix: The Three-Day Fix. This also show the powerful effects being in nature for three full days can have one the body, especially the prefrontal cortex.  It gives your body the ability to down regulate and rest.  In todays over active society this is really a the root of healing our bodies, mind, and spirit.

So one of the most powerful healing steps you can take in make nature part of your self care routine.  Start simple and keep it easy.  Now that we are hitting summer, this is a perfect time to start.

Grounding couldn’t be easier- and it’s free. All you have to do is touch the earth whenever you can and as much as you can.  Here are some general tips.
