3 Common Ingredients to NOT put into your smoothie

Ok so we all know that eating more fruits and vegetables is super healthy for our bodies.

What's better then mixing up a bunch of healthy ingredients in your blender and in a matter of moments, having a nutritious meal, right?    Smoothies are the all rave in the wellness arena marketed as a healthy way to start the day, get more energy, feed your body well and build a healthy lifestyle.

Well, the truth is, is that the healthy benefits of you smoothie depend on what you are putting into your drink and there are three ingredients that you should not be adding and these are milk, sugar, and ice.

 1. MILK

Let's begin with one of the most common ingredients people put in, milk.  Do you add this? Or have you in the past?

So here is the deal. If you are making a milk shake as a special once in a while treat, awesome, enjoy!

But if you are adding it into your daily first meal of the day, let's rethink this option.

In Chinese medicine dairy can be very damping, which means it clogs up your body, creates excess mucus and can make you feel fatigued.

So in you have been experiencing fatigue, post nasal drip, you have eczema, acne, candida, then drop the milk. This will help your body function better.

Instead of the milk, and use homemade nut milk instead.  The taste of homemade nut milk will blow your mind!  It’s so good and healthy for you! Keep a watch out for my future blog on How to Make your home Nut Milk.

 2. SUGAR

Stop adding sugar. A common ingredient to add to smoothie is fruit, so you adding plenty of sweetness and you don't need to add any more sugar.   You are doing a disservice to your body when you do.

Sugar can lead to inflammation, weight gain, and feeling unhealthy.  Some better options are stevia, an all natural sugar. You can try vanilla extract, or vanilla powder as well.

 3. ICE

Finally, don't add the ice.  I know this is a staple in smoothies, but here is the deal.  It's very common to have a smoothie as your first meal of the day, right? The issue is that your digestion system is like a warm cauldron and it has been in a rejuvenating process all night, ready to function well for you in the morning.   So, if you douse your body, first thing in the morning with icy foods you are weakening your digestive track and if you do it again everyday you are taxing the overall functioning of your body.

My suggestion is: don’t add any ice and if use frozen fruit instead of fresh fruit(which I recommend) then let it sit at room temperature for bit so it is not icy cold when you drink it.

Ok My favorite smoothie recipe is:

 ½ banana frozen

¼  fresh blueberries

1 -2 tablespoon of protein powder

1 cup of cashew milk

1 tsp of maca

1 tsp of matcha tea

I put all the ingredients into my vitamix and blend it up for a few minutes and my breakfast is ready!

 Enjoy
